Foley Update
This darn story keeps changing.
He was 18 at the time. Correction: HotAir notes he was 17 during some conversations, 18 during others.A quick perusal of the MSM shows they are still stuck on the original storyline. Will they add the latest information? At the very least, Brian Ross of ABC has some explaining to do about his sources and why he got the story so wrong at the beginning, and why it was framed so poorly. This doesn't make it right. It does, however, turn it from a case of the criminal to a case of the strongly socially disapproved. It's a firing offense (or, here, a resigning offense), to be sure, but not a criminal offense-- but boy, did the MSM present it as the latter.
Does this mean Mark Foley isn't a scumbag? No, he still is, and he's still an embarrassment to the party. However, the page in question's age has now crept slightly closer to the age of Monica Lewinsky, whose affair with a sitting president, we're told in no uncertain terms, was no one's business but their own.
Bryan has more. He asks the question that the media has yet refused to ask: did those who sourced the story allow a predator to run free to further their political aims? Asking this question does nothing to exonerate Foley, who is a sleaze. However, there is a lot more to this story than we originally believed, and an honest media would be more interested in exploring all aspects of it.
Just so we're clear, my desire for honesty in this story doesn't mean I condone what Foley did, or agree with what the Republican leadership did to make this mess worse. All I'm asking is that our media give us all the facts so we can make up our own minds about what happened instead of being spoon-fed facts that fit a preconcieved narrative.
