Bad Sportsmanship in the Extreme
Another guy who should be punished quite severely.
Julius Jones had just scored on a 5-yard run, putting Dallas up 20-6 in what wound up as a 45-14 victory. Gurode's helmet came off, and Haynesworth, standing over him, used his right foot to kick Gurode in the head. They were playing on grass, so everyone was wearing cleats, making Haynesworth's actions that much more serious. I was watching the game, and had no idea what had happened until the instant replay. Haynesworth walked off the field in a temper yesterday, but his apology this morning seemed sincere, so I'm sure between then and now he has been subjected to some serious tongue lashing.Gurode said they hadn't been talking or having any exchanges that led to Haynesworth kicking him twice. He received stitches above his forehead and beneath his eye.
"In all my years of football, this has never happened to me. I've never been kicked in the face like this, and I've never seen anybody kick nobody else in the face," Gurode said.
While I'm glad to see the Titans coach willing to punish Haynesworth, I hope the more severe action comes from the NFL. Honestly, I don't think he should see the field until pre-season training in 2007, but that's just me.

You have to set a precedent for punishing this sort of behavior so it doens't happen again. It's similar to the time when Orlando Brown attacked a referee after he got hit in the eye with a flag--he got a big suspension for that (but of course he couldn't play anyway because of the injury). With Brown, at least you could understand that it might have been a reaction out of shock and pain. This Haynesworth guy, though, no excuse at all. Sit him for the year. It's not like the Titans' season isn't in the toilet already anyway.
