An Overused Card
Bill Cohen denounces "racist" ad, giving MSNBC the excuse it needs to run this headline - "Corker calls for own party to pull spot some Republicans denounce as racist"
Here's the ad in question. What exactly is racist about it? Perhaps Cohen would like to explain his criticism:
Corker himself called the ad “distasteful” Tuesday, telling MSNBC-TV, “I think it ought to come down.” Meanwhile, Bill Cohen, a former Republican senator from Maine, criticized it in an interview on CNN as “a very serious appeal to a racist sentiment.”It's snarky, sarcastic and I wonder about its effectiveness, but racist is the last thing I thought when I watched the ads. Perhaps my disagreement with Cohen has to do with my dislike for the man, as I've personally seen him treat 'little people' like crap, but this ad gives very little evidence for the charge he's made
This manufactured furor is evidence, I believe, of Harold Ford's growing desperation in this race. I think in the end Corker is going to win this, and Ford is starting to look for any advantage he can. It's disgraceful and reminiscent of the 'RATS subliminal message story.

I briefly met Bill Cohen at some election-night thing in 1988 (it may have been at the Eastland, but my brain damage prevents that much recall).
What struck me about him is what a small man he is. Literally. I had to look down at him.I dunno how he treats the help, as he was smiling for the cameras at the time.
As a local, you know that Republicans in Maine can't get elected without the huge Southern Maine leftist vote. Hence RINOs like Olympia and Susan. He may also have spent too much time in the Clinton administration.
In any event, I don't see where he got the "very serious appeal to a racist sentiment." That crap's being thrown around a little too freely these days.
