Ugh

Falwell. Need I say more?

WASHINGTON - The Rev. Jerry Falwell says a White House run by Sen.
Hillary Rodham Clinton would energize his base of religious conservatives even more than if the devil were the Democratic nominee.

"I certainly hope that Hillary is the candidate," Falwell told a private prayer breakfast. "Because nothing will energize my (constituency) like Hillary Clinton."

"If Lucifer ran, he wouldn't," Falwell added, drawing a roomful of laughs and cheers.

The really sad thing is that he's probably right, depending on who you ask.

Spiritual warfare has taken a backseat to political warfare in far too many churches. Falwell is an embarrasment, but I have to admit that his words reveal something about the modern evangelical movement that should concern those who follow Christ.

Jesus was about helping those in poverty, forgiving others, caring for the environment, and loving your enemies. Sad to see Christianity fall so far.

Nice try, DR. But Christianity is actually about the soul, not the body.

I was going to argue but I realized I still don't know your exact reason for Falwell being an embarrassment.

I am an Evangelical Christian. I occasionally watch Falwell. (I also enjoy Dr James Kennedy, Dr. Dobson, The Inspiration Network, the 700 Club, and EWTN the conservative Catholic channel, just so you see my leanings). Falwell identifies politicians who are trying to install an amoral America over a moral America to those who are interested in hearing his opinion, such as persons attending that gathering. Dr. Kennedy, and Dr. Dobson do the same thing, and they all provide a lot of information, including voting records, court cases, and news reports.

A number one priority for Falwell is abortion. He really sincerely believes it is murder, as do most fundamentalists and all Catholics who sincerely support the creed they swear to in the mass every week. Hillary promoted her 'It Takes a Village' philosophy widely which is an anathema to Evangelicals because it stood for making the state the ultimate parent of the child. She is also pro-abortion although she makes lip-service speeches that she wants to reduce abortions.

Evangelicals believe they are involved in a fight to even be able to espouse their beliefs in a nation that is incrementally reclassifying religious opinion as hate speech, and public religious speech as offensive. They do not think they are supposed to fight with prayer only, anymore than they think they are to feed the hungry with prayer only

If you think Falwell is the Al Sharpton of the Evangelicals, you are wrong. He is very, very respected because he is perceived as fighting to rescue our rights to be what we are, in a nation that is being redfined, without our consent as morally relativist, and whose history is being rewritten to remove our Judeo-Christian roots.
