Dem Control of the Senate?

Allah reports that the Dems stand a good chance of taking over the U.S. Senate. What would that mean?

The Democrats would have control of the legislative agenda, few judges would be confirmed and the president would not be able to get legislation passed without a fight.

So yeah, not much would change.

Thanks, Senator Frist!

Off topic, but the same pollster shows what looks like a competitive governor’s race in Maine, http://rasmussenreports.com/2006/State%20Polls/August%202006/MaineGovernor.htm

If the Dems do take the Senate they will try to Impeach President Bush and do everything possible to set a time table of when to get the troops out of Iraqi before the Job is finish. In other words we will be in Big Trouble.

President Cheney?

I could live with that.

I’m hesitant to talk back to Allah but didn’t the NYT predict Democrats would take both the House and Senate in 2004, and didn’t the Times also fail to see the earth moving ahead of the ’94 election when not one Democrat incumbent won.

So when exactly did we start thinking it matters what the NYT says?

Actually, I lied in the last post. I’m not at all hesitant to back talk Allah.

Allah says about Senate race in Virginia that “it may well be that the only thing standing between us and Majority Leader Harry Reid is Senator Macaca. God help us.”

But compare this to what Powerline has to say: “the latest poll from Virginia contains good news for Allen: In the first poll in a couple of weeks, a new poll by SurveyUSA for WUSA-TV Washington DC and WDBJ-TV Roanoke gives Allen a five-point lead, 49% - 44%. All things considered this has to be seen as good news for the Allen campaign given the recent news coverage. The poll was taken Sunday - Tuesday while the latest scuttlebutt over accusations that he used the N-word in the 1970's was hitting in the media. Each individual day's polling was all over the place so it is clear there is a tremendous amount of volatility in this race. But given the news flow for Allen the past month, the fact that Webb has actually lost ground from SurveyUSA's poll taken August 18-20 is not great news for his [Webb’s] ultimate prospects in November.”

I like both Allah and Powerline but obviously neither of them has a crystal ball. As for me, I won’t even start worrying about the prospect of losing either chamber until the bookie line turns against us.
