Castro's Health

Val of Babalu Blog is asking some good questions about the media reporting on the health of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. So far, the reporters in Cuba seem to be doing very little actual reporting - they're relying almost entirely on the statements of public officials and spokesmen.

This is something that bothers me about American reporters as well. When VP Cheney shot a guy in Texas, I remember NBC's David Gregory throwing a hissy fit about not being 'notified" as though his job was simply to sit back and wait for information to be placed in front of him. It was pathetic.

I guess digging for information only happens when there are national security secrets to expose.
