Mi Abuela

When I was a little boy, walking through my grandmother Garcia's kitchen was dangerous. If we were caught, we'd be put to work rolling tortillas or making enchiladas. These mundane tasks, which seemed so boring at the time, gave me a love of cooking that lasts to this day. The kitchen is my therapy room - the place I go to forget the worries of the day and bleed the stress from my life.

A few minutes ago, my father called to tell me that my grandmother has passed away. Lillie Perez Garcia loved to cook, loved to play games (and win) and loved her family.

I loved her, and will miss her.
