Enforce the Contract
So it's not enough that Congress is using weak legal arguments to protect its own. It's not enough that they're spending taxpayer money on worthless pork projects. This proves they have absolutely, positively no shame left.
The House Judiciary Committee has just announced a rare recess hearing, set for next Tuesday, entitled, "RECKLESS JUSTICE: Did the Saturday Night Raid of Congress Trample the Constitution?"How much taxpayer money will be wasted for this media stunt of a nonsense hearing? What is wrong with these people? As Riehl World View puts it, these guys never seem to find a 'separation of powers' conflict when they drag executive officials in front of their kangaroo courts. This is beyond arrogant - arguing that you shouldn't be subject to executive investigation while investigating the actions of the executive.
In 1994, Republicans took control of the Congress with the Contract With America. Two of the points on that contract:
FIRST, require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress;Guess that didn't work out for us. This Congress has wasted taxpayer money at an astounding rate and its leadership is now trying to convince us that they are above the law. I say it's time to remind the majority party in Congress of another part of the contract:SECOND, select a major, independent auditing firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of Congress for waste, fraud or abuse;
10. THE CITIZEN LEGISLATURE ACT: A first-ever vote on term limits to replace career politicians with citizen legislators.Let's make this campaign promise a reality and enforce the Contract with America.

Wow. I was not paying attention to politics back then, and even though I have heard of the contract I didn't know what it said. Was this ever voted on? How do we get term limits on the ballot? I had pretty much lost all hope of term limits since I thought that Congress had to approve them-fat chance. Does everyone know what was in the contract?
