McClellan Out, Rove Changes Jobs

Finally.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A shake-up in President Bush's administration widened Wednesday as White House press secretary Scott McClellan announced his resignation and a senior administration official said longtime Bush confidant Karl Rove will no longer oversee policy development.

News of McClellan's exit comes shortly after the departure of longtime White House chief of staff Andrew Card and amid calls by retired U.S. generals for the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

Nice mention of Rumsfeld there, guys. Sorry to tell you this, but I don't think Rumsfeld is going anywhere.

McClellan seems like a nice person, but that was part of the problem. The White House press corps has been combative and at times, extremely unprofessional. McClellan was far too accomodating of the prima donnas (yes, I mean this guy)and a press secretary should be more feisty. I'm hoping for either Tony Snow or Mr. Stick Figure (mild content warning) myself.

As for Rove...well, I agree with Ace on his 'effectiveness.'

Rove's policymaking role stripped away; given the policy coming out of the White House of late, that sounds like a pretty good idea. Rove's big ideas seem to have been Harriet Miers, the prescription drug (sorta) benefit, and minting millions of new Democratic/economic left voters by giving citizenship to illegal immigrants. We could use less of that sort of genius.
Lately, it seems Rove's reputation is completely undeserved.
