Catching Up

As you can imagine, I haven't read much news lately. The first two nights we had the kid home, she cried quite a bit. Last night was different. She slept for two-three hours at a time, which felt like nine to my sleep-deprived brain.

So today, I've been reading the news, trying to figure out what's been going on in the world during the baby-imposed exile.

If the Republicans don't shape up, they are going to lose control of Congress in November. Spending discipline should be easy to enforce - it was once a major part of Republican ideology.

You'd never know it from media reports, but troop morale is pretty high, it seems.

I really don't like the sound of this.

Schools are trying to figure out how to cure an age-old disease - senioritis.

After all of the news blitz surrounding a television show and its meaning for politics, can we now take its cancellation as a sign that maybe people weren't ready for a female president? Prediction: if "Commander-in-Chief" is cancelled, it will become just a television show again. Plus, let's face it - Hillary will not be the first female president. Someone else will.

Here's a question. I am convinced that one-party rule has not been good to the GOP. I think I still tend towards conservativism, however, in the long run I think it will be best if soem sort of accountability returns to the picture. The question is, what cure would be worse in the long run for Republicans: losing control of the Senate this fall, or losing control of the White House in '08?

The Senate, I think. They're the ones spending like mad, and frankly, they need to be shown that incumbency isn't a guaranteed free job for life.

Off topic and late to the party, but congrats!!! She's an absolute cutie.
