Feingold's Resolution

The man who brought us unconstitutional restrictions on free speech has introduced a censure resolution on the floor of the United States Senate.

Democrats sharpened their attack yesterday on President Bush's warrantless surveillance of Americans, with a liberal senator introducing a censure resolution and party leaders showing a willingness to debate the matter.

Some party strategists, however, worried that voters will see the move as overreaching partisanship, and Republicans pounced, practically daring Democrats to vote for the measure. "The big question now," said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.), "is how many of his Democrat colleagues will follow him over the cliff?"

n a floor speech introducing his resolution, Sen. Russell Feingold (Wis.) said: "When the president of the United States breaks the law, he must be held accountable." Bush, he said, "authorized an illegal program to spy on American citizens on American soil, and then misled Congress and the public about the existence and legality of that program."

The Democratic leadership is described as 'cautious.'
Democratic leaders reacted cautiously to Feingold's move. Senate Minority Leader Harry M. Reid (Nev.) commended him "for bringing this to the attention of the American people. We need a full and complete debate on this NSA spying." Reid and Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (D-Conn.) told reporters they wanted to examine the resolution before endorsing or rejecting it.
In other words, they're waiting for the polling results to come in before jumping on this one or running away. This resolution shows the tension that exists between elected Democrats and the mostly web-based activists. Personally, I don't believe this is going anywhere - and there will be much outrage from the activists as a result.

"The man who brought us unconstitutional restrictions on free speech"

.... so what does this have to do with the motion? Just slinging mud?

oh.... McCain/Feingold...you're darn tooten Pete. Draft a bill, get it passed and have it challanged by, oh civil libertarians (you know the ACLU), and get portions struck down by the supreme court....damn fools following the system of law negotiated and agreed upon.

I'm with you. Just do it the Bush way.....break the law and hide under the threat of 'muslims'. Because we all know how violent they are.

Regarding Feingold and free speech...You obviously were not refering to the CIEC...

"FEINGOLD APPLAUDS SUPREME COURT DECISION STRIKING DOWN UNCONSTITUTIONAL INTERNET CENSORSHIP LAW

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Senator Russ Feingold applauded the U.S. Supreme Court decision to strike down the Communications Decency Act (CDA) which bans constitutionally protected speech on the Internet."
