Your Tax Dollars at Work?
The Smoking Gun got a copy of the GAO report on how FEMA funds were spent post-Katrina and provides a sample:
The title of this chart is a masterpiece of understatement.
I know not everyone is going to be completely honest with money given to them by the government, but it seems to me that the FEMA debit cards were a pretty bad idea that should probably not be repeated in the aftermath of future natural disasters.
UPDATE - I see Dave beat me to the joke by about 10 minutes. Darn.

Did they honestly beleive that giving people a load of cash in the form of plastic was not going to be abused ?

I just wonder why FEMA didn't even put the most basic of restrictions on the money. At minimum, they could have held people to the same standards as WIC, but did not.
Haste makes waste, I guess.
