Sticking With the Classic
Jonathan Last at Galley Slaves says the early buzz on the Xbox 360 is not that great.
I have a classic XBox and had no intention of upgradiing. I like the games I have, play them to relax by myself or as a social event with friends (Halo 2 with 8 players is all kinds of fun). To justify the upgrade and the cost of the new console, Microsoft needed to wow video game enthusiasts with something new and different.
Doesn't look as though that's happening.

As far as I can tell, the 360 is an upgraded X-Box. It has all the features from before with some nice little updates. I don't plan to go out and spend $400 to get one right away, but I do plan to get one at some point. It's backwards compatible, of course, so that's not an issue. So yeah, I get the feeling that Halo 3 will be great, and maybe there will be a few other good games for the system, so I do plan to upgrade sometime.
Ask me about my thoughts on the PS3 though. ;)

I didn't care a bit about the 360 until I played the Call of Duty 2 demo. Now we're buying one. I'm not a gamer. We have every major console in our house for my kids, but I've spent less than 12 hours of play time in the last 3 or 4 years. Most of that has been playing CoD2 on regular Xbox this week. The comparison for me is like the difference between playing a game with and without my glasses on. I think a lot of the benefit might be lost if the 360 is played on non-HDTV.
