Oil-Based Paint is of Satan

That's just one of the things I learned today. Put some primer on the wall of what we're planning to make our dining room. Discovered oil-based primer is sticky, smelly and generally unpleasant to work with. There is no conceivable reason a man should be wiping himself down with paint thinner at the end of the day, but that's what I ended up doing this evening. Extremely bad.

I also learned is that the self-checkout option at Home Depot is annoying. It was like having Hal 9000 as a cashier - "What are you doing, Dave? Put your items back into the bagging area."

The closing itself went well. A lot of papers to sign, a check handed over, and it's done. Amazing how 'easy' it is to spend over $100,000. On the plus side, we have no rent, no mortgage payment for the next month. It's like a vacation.

Except for all the work, that is.

I'm not so bad, once you get to know me.

(Funny thing is, I've never seen that movie)

Read the book first, or the movie will be a two-hour, "Huh?"

Congratulations. We closed on our house 2 weeks ago. I've been ripping mildewey insulation out of the crawl space since then, and replacing it with fluffy, new, yellow, itchy stuff. Spiders like you see in the movies. Floor joists and ductwork that remind me of Aliens. Banged my head more times than I can count. I love every minute of it! It is so satisfying to work on your castle.

Bleah. I hate working on my house.

Well, I've only been there 2 weeks, so it will probably get old fast.

Congrats on the house.

Thanks. Spent the entire day priming walls and peeling wallpaper. Fortunately for us, whoever installed that wallpaper was terrible at it and it came off like we were peeling a banana. Very satisfying.

Feels like someone's been hitting me with sticks now and my hand has turned into a claw.

Still, though, there's something cool about working on the house. Like John said, it will probably get old in a couple of weeks, though.

Maybe the work won't get old if you pace yourself and vary the tasks. Keep remembering it is your castle...it doesn't have to be finished in a week or a month.
And take some photos of that lovely paint job, cause you'll want to remember what it looked like before the kid(s) came along and discovered what crayons and felt-tip markers can do to brighten up a room.;->

Hmm, be thankful you're painting in the U.S. In Russia, I don't think they have paint thinner. So, what do they use to get oil-based paint off their skin?

Gasoline.
