God Hits the Reset Button

The line above, written by James Lileks, perfectly describes the feelings I had eleven weeks ago when my wife showed me a plastic stick with two lines on it. It took me a few seconds to realize the implications of that test, and to be honest it's still hard to believe that seven months from now my life is going to change, big time.

My wife is pregnant with our first child.

Although the kid's arrival is still months away, Lileks' description of how he felt rings true - a lot of my priorities have been reset. Sure, it would be great to have a better-paying job, a nicer car or a Bose home theater system, but those things are honestly much less important to me right now than having a healthy son or daughter.

I have to say, I'm looking forward to meeting this kid. Even if, at the moment, he or she kind of looks like an Area 51 alien on the sonogram.

Congratulations!

You're darn right things will change. But, if my experience is typical, it will be a change well worth it.

That first child changes your lifestyle majorly. It's one heck of a ride. But don't be scared off on account of that. Treat it like a roller coaster and enjoy the ride.

Congradulations bud! I nearly fell out of my chair when I heard that rumor from an alternate source last week. Your hitting the rest of the big ones in quick sucession (house, kid), not a whole lot left :-)

Lifestyle change #4,578: Our 7 year-old just home from school, removes his upper clothing (a T-shirt, a pullover shirt, and a zipped-up jacket) in one smooth over-the-head moment that Houdini would envy. You then spend the next hour untangling the mess, almost resorting to scissors on two occasions. Yeah, you're gonna love being a dad.

Well, congratulations!!!!! How wonderful for you. Yes. Life changes in so many ways, you have no idea. But I will correct you on one thing. If your wife told you 11 weeks ago and she was probably at least 3 or so weeks pregnant at the time, then your baby looks like the 14 week old that I have pictured on my blog now. Looks just like...a baby! not a 51 alien.

Babies rock!!!
