"Sweet Neo Con"
Well, it's not "Gimme Shelter," that's for sure.
"You call yourself a Christian, I call you a hypocrite/ You call yourself a patriot. Well, I think your are full of sh*t!... How come you're so wrong, my sweet neo-con."I'll never understand why so many artists feel such a strong desire to alienate their fans lately. Plus, the Rolling Stones? I mean, it's one thing when Green Day releases an anti-war, anti-Bush song. They're a punk band trying to establish their rebel creds. But the Stones?Ready to drop in the coming weeks, a new Bush-bashing tune from the ROLLING STONES: "Sweet Neo Con."
"It is direct," Mick Jagger says with a laugh to fresh editions of NEWSWEEK.
The Stones are already pretty pathetic. There's nothing more painful than watching a bunch of old guys jump around on stage trying to relive their bad boy youths. This attempt at making a political statement seems more like the guys are trying to tap into a market, and less like an honest expression of their feelings. I can't verify that, but it just doesn't seem that sincere.
And this will get me in trouble with some, but 98 percent of the Stones' music?
Crap.
UPDATE - What would a politically active Stones concert look like? WuzzaDem has the answer.

Hey, I'm with you. And Jagger? His ballad, "Angie", is exhibit A for the existence of payola in the music business; truly one of the worst excuses for music ever recorded.

It seems weird that they're just getting political now ... you'd think they would have put out this kind of thing last year, before the election.
I agree about the Stones' music ... 'Paint it Black' is a damn good song, but that's about it.

Yeah. That guitar part is great.

What I think is hilarious is that these retards can't even get the talking points straight. Didn't they know that the Neo-Cons were all Jooooooos?
And yes, 'Paint it Black' is a good song. But that's about it. Most overrated band in history. And Oh My God, they must be the ugliest people alive today. They look like they've already started decomposing.

They look like they've already started decomposing.
Yup. It's the drugs.
My favorite Denis Leary bit is when he talks about Keith Richards doing anti-drug commercials. He says "Keith, we can't do drugs! You've already done them all. We're going to have to wait until you die and smoke your ashes."
I think Denis was wrong, though. By the looks of it, Richards has been dead for at least a decade.

The Stones have been doing political songs from the very beginning. "Satisfaction" is political. "Undercover." "Gimme Shelter." "Street Fightin' Man." "Rock and a Hard Place." The list could go on and on. Anybody who doesn't know that has never listened to their music. One may agree or disagree with their POV, of course. As to the aesthetics of the work, that's a subjective judgement- de gustibus etc. But the fact that politics has always been part of the Stones' songwriting is just that- a fact.

Actually there is one thing more pathetic...a bunch of watered down neo cons slagging musicians for actually exercising their free speech.

The Rolling stones are one of the greatest rock bands ever! They have over 50 songs that are all great. You know why they never wrote political songs before? Because never in history has a completely befuddled moron stolen the White House for two terms. You guys should just admit that you have too low an IQ to NOT support Bush and stop bashing a legendary band.

Well, it is good to see people expressing such passion about music.
Plus, "Satisfaction" is political? Hm. I just figured it was about rebellion in general, not just in politics. Interesting.

Anyone who would state "the stones are just getting political" is a fucking MORON
Posted by: Slobo at August 11, 2005 09:34 PM
So you believe they've been political for some time?
I'll admit, they've had some great songs. One of my favorites is "Thru and Thru," which has a very cool guitar part.
But I don't see them as a political band. When I think political bands, I think U2 or Rage Against the Machine. Not the Stones.

Can't speak for others, but when I said they were "just getting political now" I meant on a much more recent timeline ... i.e., getting political as in criticizing the Bush administration. I wasn't talking about their stuff from decades past - but rather they are "just now", as in August 2005 instead of November 2004, getting around to saying something about Bush or Iraq or whatever the song is about.

I can't wait for the album release. I bought my first Rolling Stones album at about 9 years old, that would have been 1980. My twelve year old son is a fan, he plays the drums, he also loves Zepplin, Aerosmith, CCR you know all the older bands. And the Stones are the same age of his grandparents. For all of the posts against the Stones, you've never really listened to the music, missed out on all the fun times did ya? To still be rockin and telling it like it is....well it's better than disability and TennCare or Medicaide. And Bush needs a wake up call. Bring our troops home instead of getting so many killed!!!! Screw Bush, I didn't vote for him either time, he didn't win either election in my book, just kind of slid in there, like a snake. ROCK ON STONES!!!!!

The rolling stones were never a great band? Guys come on thats pathetic. Really think about it - you conservatives have all got the hump because the song is giving a political message (the stones have done this for decades) at a time when Bush is faring badly in the polls. For you to turn around and say that Jagger is a two-bit singer just smacks of idiocy. wAKE UP SMELL THE COFFEE most Americans hate bush for his illegal war "We are going in their for WMD" and the rest of the world loathes him. Rock on Stones!!!!

What can I say?
I prefer the Beatles and CCR.
Different strokes, you know.
