Out of the Mouths of Drunken Rock Stars...

Noel Gallagher says Live 8 won't work, and I'll be darned if he doesn't make sense.

The outspoken OASIS guitarist believes rock stars simply don't have the influence needed to affect the G8 decision makers - and believes all their hard work will be in vain.

He says, "Correct me if I'm wrong, but are they hoping that one of these guys from the G8 is on a quick 15 minute break at Gleneagles (in Scotland) and sees ANNIE LENNOX singing SWEET DREAMS and thinks, 'F**k me, she might have a point there, you know?'

"KEANE doing SOMEWHERE ONLY WE KNOW and some Japanese businessman going, 'Aw, look at him... we should really f**king drop that debt, you know.'

"It's not going to happen, is it?"

I admire what Bob Geldof is trying to do, and support the idea of forgiving third world debt, but think a concert will do nothing more than make fans happy. Those who do watch the concert will probably take the time spent talking about the world's poor as an opportunity to get a snack or use the bathroom.

I hope not, though.

UPDATE - The guy just keeps making sense.

Noel says a change in leadership in Africa might actually make a real difference.

"I think, more effective is taking out some of the f****n' government leaders in Africa and starting again, really. A crook is a crook right? Saddam Hussein sat on a load of oil, right? Look at (Zimbabwe president Robert) Mugabe, sat on a load of shit. So he gets to perpetuate evil against his people."

Noel even supports the use of military might in the situation.

"Team America -- the American army -- should be in Africa, shouldn't they? All the little puppets going around taking out African leaders. That would be my solution to it. Well, I mean if they really want to do good for the world. That's what I'd do.

Of course, much of Gallagher's animosity is likely a result of Oasis' decline compared with the popularity of other bands like Coldplay, Keane and U2. But still the guy has a point.
