The Catholic church has a new pope.
No word on who yet.
UPDATE - It's Ratzinger. He's taken the name Pope Benedict XVI.
UPDATE II - Any hints of what type of pope he'll be based on the name he chose? Here's some information on Pope Benedict XV. Benedict was a peacemaker who tried to stop World War I.
UPDATE III - Andrew Sullivan is really unhappy about this. That's probably a good sign.
And the Kossacks have already given the new pope a charming nickname. Aren't they classy? (Content warning)

If they're following the Church's orders on condoms why aren't they following the Church's orders on extra-marital sex? If the Catholic Church has the awesome mystical power to deny you condoms simply by edict, why don't it's magical powers extend to fornication and adultry? The Kos Kidz aren't that dumb are they?

Wow! Slubgobs post about Cardinal Ratf**ker surprised even me in its swiftness! I predicted that before the week was over he'd be called a Nazi. This turd managed to exceed all of my wildest expcectations in that he managed to get shitty before his first day was over! I can see that there's going to be a firestorm and as a very conservative Catholic I'm going to have defend my church everywhere I go. Those who really hated Catholicism (especially Liberal "Catholics") but kept their mouths shut because of the popularity of John Paul will now feel no such inhibitions. Guess I'd better bone up on it all and thanks for posting the truth. Some other nameless wussie well known blogger is becoming scared to say it, a very bad trend indeed!

Sullivan is free to do pretty much what he wants to do, though his claim to being a Catholic is becoming untenable; why he insists that the Catholic Church should give its imprimatur to his one-track obsession with zoo sex is baffling. If Sullivan represents "reform", then the "reformist wing" of the Catholic Church needs to start thinking of itself as being more along the lines of an escape pod. Let the schism begin!
