"Peace-Loving" Liberal Punches Woman
Former police officer Rita Preckshot went to counter-protest at a peace rally, was standing a respectful distance away, and still drew the ire of an anti-war protestor.
"Two of the guys from the corner walked down with a big sign that read ‘End the occupation,’ " she remembers. One of them started taking pictures of a Preckshot supporter across the street, she says. "At some point, the other guy starts coming toward me."The alleged puncher is Paul Allaire, who is being charged with third-degree misdemeanor assault. For a diminutive woman, Preckshot can handle herself. She’s a former police officer, and she isn’t easily intimidated. Still, a young man coming at her waving a sign in her face seemed a little aggressive, particularly from somebody supposedly advocating peace.
The man stepped closer. She backed off a step. He shoved a sign in her face, and she backed off once again.
"Don’t touch me!" she told him.
Then, she says, he pushed her.
"He started taunting me and reached out and pushed on my shoulder," Preckshot says. "Each time he pushed, it got a little harder. When I saw his hand come at me again, I grabbed it. I felt fearful."
As Preckshot pushed the man’s hand away, "he slugged me right in the face," she says.
It's sad enough that this guy got carried away and slugged a woman in the face. What's really disgraceful about this story, though, is that none of the man's fellow "peace activists" were willing to identify Allaire as the alleged assaulter.
They saw the guy later at a peace rally, holding the same sign, and took his picture. After that, he was arrested and charged with the assault and resisting arrest.
The head of the group that organizes the protests, Peaceworks, refuses to even say whether Allaire's alleged actions disqualify him from future protests. When asked by the reporter who wrote this story about that, he said "the issue hasn’t come up."
During the election, those on the left slashed car tires, threw bricks or shot bullets through the windows of Republican offices, stole or vandalized lawn signs on private property, and chased cars with Bush/Cheney bumper stickers. In one case, protestors stormed a GOP office and in the scuffle, a Republican volunteer had his wrist broken. No elected official from the Democratic party spoke out against the violence during the campaign.
Today, the silence from Democratic leaders continues. They won't speak out against the hatred and violence among their own supporters against the Bush administration or Republicans. What will it take for them to denounce this? The longer they are silent, the more we just have to assume they are either indifferent to it or worse, secretly approve.(H/t: Michelle Malkin)

Riiiiiiiiight. No one condemned McVeigh. Bush didn't gleefully sign the warrant to execute Byrd's killers.

It seems to me that "neener neener...you guys do it too" is something of a weak response, and illustrates the point - you guys sound like the commander of Galaxy Quest - "Never give up, never surrender!"
