Economy Grows, Media Ignores

The economy grew at a rate of 3.8 percent in the last quarter of 2004. Yesterday, I heard the first part of Rush's show and he played a clip of Bill Schneider talking about how everything is partisan. As an example, he said Democrats think the economy is lousy, while Republicans think it's doing pretty well.

Uh, Bill...it's not just Republicans who think it's doing well. We've been in a boom the last six months and the media is ignoring it becuase it's inconvenient to the story they want to tell. Just like Iraq, where the news is on balance better than they want you to believe.

Instead of focusing on growth, though, the media likes to point out unemployment and gas prices. Of course, unemployment went out the window as a talking point last month and all that's remaining is the price of gas. But this isn't the late 70s. The economy isn't shutting down due to those prices. We're still driving, still buying big cars and looking for new sources of oil. No malaise here.

How much do you want to bet that if Kerry had been elected, though, we'd hear little about the price of gas and more about the overall rate of growth - the "Kerry Boom?"
